Founder and director of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition
Joshua Rosenthal was born in Toronto, Canada in 1954. Having the blood of concentration camp survivors, as well as being raised by Hungarian immigrants in Toronto, Joshua has always seen the world and the environment from an extremely unique perspective. His interest in personal health and development began during his time as a Masters student of Education and Counseling. Eager to learn more about the body and how it heals, he supplemented his Masters education with massage therapy. As a massage therapist he became curious about how food affected his patients’ healing process and began studying macrobiotics as well as starting a small health food store in Canada. His health food store turned into one of the most prominent macrobiotic education centers in Canada during the 1980s. He also began a health publication in Toronto called Common Ground magazine, which still exists today.
In the early 1990s Joshua was persuaded to open a macrobiotic education center in New York City. Initially called Gulliver’s, the school has evolved into The Institute for Integrative Nutrition—the only nutrition school in the world integrating all the different dietary theories. Joshua is the founder, director and primary teacher of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and has gathered the who’s who in medicine, nutrition and wellness to teach in the program alongside him. He combines his 25 years' experience in the fields of whole foods nutrition, personal coaching, curriculum development, business and nutritional counseling into a dynamic, motivational and enthusiastic education style, training students to work with the public as health counselors and address one of our nation’s greatest challenges.
His simple approach allows people to quickly and successfully reach new levels of health and happiness. Today the Institute has 1,200 current students and thousands of graduates. In addition to his work developing the school, Joshua has written five books and has produced a supplement line and several health and nutrition DVDs.
Joshua and Integrative Nutrition’s mission is to play a crucial role in improving the health and happiness of Americans, and through that process, create a ripple effect that transforms the world.
